Meet our Rabbi
Rabbi Yaakov Meyer
In 1986, the term “outreach” in Jewish communities usually referred to serving the needs of intermarried couples. Rabbi Yaakov Meyer quickly became one of the pioneers who put a new spin on Jewish outreach, both locally and nationally, by serving the needs of Jews. In 1996, after creating an outreach division on behalf of Denver’s Yeshiva Toras Chaim (now The Jewish Experience), and subsequently teaching hundreds of classes and inspiring thousands of Denver-area Jews, Rabbi Meyer established a unique organization in southeast Denver, known as the Southeast Center for Judaism (SECJ).
As the organization came to incorporate a synagogue, it was also known as Ahavas Yisroel. In 2001, when the SECJ/Ahavas Yisroel joined forces with the world’s foremost outreach organization, Aish HaTorah, it became known as Aish Denver, a vibrant center of Jewish learning and discovery that has revolutionized the southeast Denver Jewish community. The ripple effects of Aish Denver have been felt throughout the country, as Rabbi Meyer has been regularly consulted throughout the last 20 years regarding community building with synagogues and outreach centers.
